People watching is not train watching, not plane watching, not bird watching. It's being fascinated by the voyeuristic need to know somebody's little quirks, the visual cues that make them who they are. You can find out that somebody always rotates their glass a little every time they take a sip so as not to drink from a warmer part by people watching. You can notice that somebody tends to touch the patch of soft skin just below their eye when they're thinking hard about something. If you're not somebody that does this, it can sound like the pastime of a creep, a psychopath but if you do find yourself doing this then you will understand it's harmless but occasionally all consuming.

Tumblr is one of a new wave of quick and dirty blogging platforms for those posts of media a little richer than Twitter and a little leaner than Wordpress. I happen to be besotted, so check my Tumblr out.

Being somebody who recently started a blog with no previous web presence, web analytics has very quickly become a big interest of mine. If you don't know about web analytics or know of them but they sound dull, please stick with me. Web analytics are a method of keeping track of the popularity of your website. You place some code into your website which the analytics service picks up and it starts to recieve an influx of visitor data on things like page views per visitor, traffic sources and bounce rate (the amount of visitors that don't click onto a second

In a previous post I spoke about my ability to hold trivia and it's use or the lack of, in real life situations. This time I'm going to talk about the secret to netting in that kind of volume of widespread general knowledge. It doesn't take hours and hours of dedicated reading of history books or technical textbooks or private "useless trivia" tutoring. All it takes is a little tweak in your activities on the web and how you look at things in the world (in retrospect, your world view could seem a big thing to alter).
To be able to have the skill of acquiring information, I guess you have to have a fundamental understanding of all of the underlying concepts from which you can build upon. Fundamental understandings you really need to have down include the basic geography of the world, the human temperament, very basic understandings of scientific constants like the planets in the solar system, our galaxy's name and very Primary School knowledge like that. This may seem a given to some but an inconvenience to others but for instance how can you begin to understand about the event horizon of a black hole if you don't understand all mass in the universe has the force of gravity acting upon it? This shouldn't really be a problem though because you get most of these basic principles from a Primary School education.

The World Wide Web was a cold invention. It was originally a network with which scientists could share findings, papers and co-ordinate. It was used by large institutions, one of the first being CERN, with bodies of data being sent across the web servers. Tim Berners Lee didn't have much other than this in mind when he hashed together the logistics of hyperlinking web pages forming a network. He saw an opportunity to streamline modern science's progression.
The enormous growth of the web expanded exponentially as large companies saw another medium where they could advertise,

"There is nothing permanent but change."
Being afraid of the uncertainty of our future is nothing new. In fact it's been a primary function of the human race almost since it was a race at all. Far apart from being a Nostradamus, I'm not afraid of a fiery end with scorching coals rending flesh from bone in the forecoming years. I'm afraid of

The minimalist workspace is something often attributed to the fashion designer, the magazine editor, the art director. But of late, the obsession with the cleanest and most attractive workplace has become more and more prominent in creative circles. Though you can see the logic, surely an emptier canvas makes for more creative possibilities. Less clutter must surely mean easier thought and creation in a more practical sense. Nobody enjoys trying to draw and A3 sketch in a gap dug into a veritable forest of sheets of paper. So in this post I'll describe my experience with fighting toward a clearer environment, my dream workspace and where you can see some of the most deliciously empty workplaces you will ever see.

Escapism is an inclination to escape from routine or reality, into fantasy. It's that time when you imagined an elaborate story wherein you travelled to Thailand and started a new, simpler life.
Like meditation, it's one of those things you half end up doing anyway in the course of your day. For example, let's have a story.

We have to deal with a lot of big inconveniences in the courses of our lives but it's often the little day to day things that occupy our pet hates. Here are mine:
  • Holes in socks
  • Always feeling thirsty
  • Constant slight fatigue
  • Waiting to cross the road
  • Waiting for things to load, webpages, programs
  • Threading needles
  • Coat hangers
What are your petty annoyances?
